Kevin Scott

Partner

Kevin is a lawyer in the tax group at KSW Lawyers. Kevin graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Law Degree in 2002. He was called to the Alberta bar in 2003 and the British Columbia Bar in 2012.

Kevin grew up in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. In 1988, he moved to Calgary to train with the national speed skating team. Kevin has travelled extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia competing for Canada at various World Cups and World Championships. Kevin is also a two-time Olympian, competing in the 1992 and 1994 Winter Olympics and is a former world record holder and World Champion Gold Medalist in the 1000 meter event.

After his sporting career, Kevin practiced as a tax lawyer with a national law firm in Calgary where he acted for numerous large energy corporations and funds. In 2012, Kevin moved to B.C. and joined KSW Lawyers.

Areas of Practice: Kevin’s practice is focused on corporate and individual business tax. His experience includes reorganizations of private business enterprises, estate planning, business and wealth succession planning.

Kevin’s professional experience includes:

  • Advising on the structuring of corporate/commercial transactions including mergers, acquisitions, divestures, and reorganizations.
  • Providing advice to small business owners on their corporate and personal tax planning matters including estate planning, succession planning and income splitting techniques.
  • Advising on the structuring and creation of partnerships.

Fayme K. Hodal

Lawyer

Fayme is a tax litigator with KSW Lawyers. Fayme primarily represents individual and SME business/corporate taxpayers in all aspects of their disputes with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). She and her team assist clients at every stage of their tax dispute, including managing the flow of information to the CRA during the audit and objections process, and through appeals at the Tax Court of Canada.

Fayme also regularly writes and contributes to articles about taxation, and presents on a variety of tax matters, sharing her experience and expertise gained through practice to increase the body of knowledge and understanding of taxation in Canada.

As a life-long West Coast local, Fayme joined KSW Lawyers following her time practicing with national law firms; she has appeared before both Provincial and Superior Courts across multiple western Canadian provinces, as well as before an array of provincial and federal administrative tribunals.

In addition to having completed the Canadian Securities Course and holding a Certificate in European Business Law, Fayme obtained her BA in Economics from Simon Fraser University, JD from Thompson Rivers University, and LLM with a specialization in Tax Law from Osgoode Hall at York University.
